Common problems guide

The most common Baxi Profile problems

The faults most likely to send a Baxi Profile into lockout — with plain-English causes, what to check first, estimated repair costs and whether you need a Gas Safe engineer.

This model is discontinued. Parts can be harder to source and expensive. If repair costs are mounting, a new A-rated boiler may be the smarter choice.

The 6 most common faults

01
E110 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has safety-tripped because it has become too hot, often caused by a lack of water flow or a minor blockage.

What to try first

Check that your system pressure is between 1.0 and 1.5 bar on the pressure gaugeEnsure all radiator valves and any isolation valves are fully openAllow the boiler to cool down and then press the Reset button

Est. cost
£100-280
Parts
Overheat Thermostat, Circulation Pump, NTC Temperature Sensor

02
E119 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure is too low for the system to run safely.

What to try first

Locate the filling loop (usually a silver braided hose underneath the boiler).Slowly open the valve(s) until you hear water entering the system.Watch the pressure gauge and close the valves once it reaches between 1.0 and 1.5 bar.

Est. cost
£0-120
Parts
Filling loop, Water pressure switch, Expansion vessel
Full guide for E119
03
E125 High DIY-safe

Your boiler is struggling to move water through the system, which is causing it to stop running to prevent overheating.

What to try first

Check that your system pressure is between 1.0 and 1.5 bar on the gaugeEnsure all radiator valves and the boiler's isolation valves are fully openGently bleed your radiators to remove any trapped air pockets

Est. cost
£180-450
Parts
Central heating pump, Water pressure switch, Main heat exchanger
Full guide for E125
04
E133 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has failed to light because it either cannot get enough gas or it cannot detect the flame it has sparked.

What to try first

Check that your gas emergency control valve is in the open positionIf you have a prepay meter, check that you have enough credit and the meter is not lockedCheck if other gas appliances like your hob are working correctlyPress the reset button or turn the selector switch to 'R' for five seconds

Est. cost
£100-£350
Parts
Ignition lead, Electrode probe, Gas valve
Full guide for E133
05
110 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has become too hot and has switched itself off as a safety precaution, often because air is trapped in the system preventing water from flowing properly.

What to try first

Switch off the boiler and allow the system to cool down completelyUse a radiator key to bleed any trapped air from all radiators, starting with the lowest floorCheck your boiler pressure gauge and top it up to 1.5 bar if it has droppedPress the reset button on the front of the boiler

Est. cost
£80-160
Parts
Overheat Thermostat, Circulation Pump, Temperature Sensors (NTC Thermistors)
Full guide for 110
06
118 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water level inside the system is not high enough to operate safely.

What to try first

Locate the filling loop (a flexible silver hose) under the boiler.Slowly open the valve(s) until you hear water entering.Watch the pressure gauge until it reaches between 1.0 and 1.5 bar, then close the valves tightly.

Est. cost
£0-120
Parts
Filling loop, Expansion vessel, Pressure relief valve

Call a Gas Safe engineer if…

  • You can smell gas or see signs of a leak
  • The Baxi shows an Emergency or High severity code
  • The boiler keeps locking out after repeated resets
  • You've tried the DIY checks and the fault hasn't cleared
  • There's visible water leaking from the boiler
  • The flame is yellow or orange instead of blue
