8.4

Your boiler is failing to keep its small pilot flame lit, which prevents the main burner from igniting and stops your heating and hot water from working.

High Engineer only £120-250

Parts commonly replaced

  • Thermocouple
  • Pilot assembly
  • Gas valve
8.14

Your boiler's air-moving fan is struggling or rattling, which could lead to your heating or hot water cutting out.

High Engineer only £180-350

Parts commonly replaced

  • Flue fan assembly
  • Fan bearing

8.15

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside the system has dropped too low to operate safely.

High DIY-safe £80-150

What to check first

  1. Locate the filling loop (a silver flexi-hose) connected to the underside of the boiler.
  2. Open the valves on the filling loop to allow cold mains water into the heating system.
  3. Watch the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler until the needle reaches the green zone, typically between 1.0 and 1.5 bar.
  4. Close the valves firmly and ensure the filling loop is disconnected if it is a removable type.

Parts commonly replaced

  • Pressure gauge
  • Filling loop valve
  • Pressure relief valve
BUBNEB STAYS ON

Your boiler is failing to ignite properly because debris or trapped air is interfering with the gas or water flow, meaning your heating and hot water will not work.

High Engineer only £120-250

Parts commonly replaced

  • Gas valve
  • Water section diaphragm
  • Slow ignition device
EXPLOSIVE IGNITION

Your boiler is struggling to light smoothly, causing a small 'pop' or bang sound when it tries to start instead of igniting quietly.

Emergency Engineer only £120-250

Parts commonly replaced

  • Gas valve
  • Ignition electrode
  • Pilot assembly
GAS CONTROL TAP STIFF (USER’S)

The dial you use to turn your boiler on or off has become extremely difficult to move, which likely means the internal lubricant has dried out or the knob was not put back on correctly after previous work.

Medium Engineer only £120-200

Parts commonly replaced

  • Gas valve
  • Control knob mechanism
HEATING BODY NOISE

Your boiler is making loud banging or kettling noises because of internal debris buildup, incorrect gas settings, or restricted water circulation.

High Engineer only £150-350

Parts commonly replaced

  • Heat exchanger
  • Pump
  • Gas valve
INSUFFICIENT WATER FLOW

Your boiler is struggling to detect enough water flowing through it to safely turn on your hot water taps.

High Engineer only £120-250

Parts commonly replaced

  • Water flow sensor
  • Diaphragm
  • Venturi
LOW WATER TEMPERATURE

Your boiler is not heating the water effectively because it is having trouble regulating the flow of gas or detecting the water movement required to trigger the heating process.

High Engineer only £120-250

Parts commonly replaced

  • Venturi
  • Water governor diaphragm
  • Gas valve
MAIN BURNER DOES NOT LIGHT

Your boiler is failing to ignite the flame needed to heat your water or home, meaning you currently have no heating or hot water.

High Engineer only £120-250

Parts commonly replaced

  • Diaphragm
  • Gas Valve
  • Venturi
  • Microswitch
PILOT FLAME DOES NOT LIGHT

Your boiler is failing to ignite because it cannot start the small pilot flame required to trigger the main burner.

High Engineer only £120-250

Parts commonly replaced

  • Pilot injector
  • Ignition electrode
  • Piezo igniter
  • Gas valve
PILOT WILL NOT STAY ALIGHT

Your boiler is failing to keep its small starter flame lit, which prevents the main system from firing up to provide you with heating or hot water.

High Engineer only £120-250

Parts commonly replaced

  • Thermocouple
  • Thermo-electric valve
POOR PILOT FLAME

The small pilot flame that acts as a signal to ignite your boiler is too weak or flickering, so the system is shutting down for safety to prevent gas from escaping unburnt.

Emergency Engineer only £120-200

Parts commonly replaced

  • Pilot injector
  • Pilot burner assembly
  • Pilot tubing
UNSTABLE FLAMES

Your boiler is struggling to keep a steady flame, which suggests either moisture is trapped in the gas supply or the system cannot breathe properly through its exhaust.

Emergency Engineer only £150-300

Parts commonly replaced

  • Flue seals
  • Gas valve
  • Air pressure switch
YELLOW FLAMES / SOOT FORMED

Your boiler is not burning fuel cleanly, which can create dangerous gases, so you should stop using it immediately.

Emergency Engineer only £120-250

Parts commonly replaced

  • Main burner injectors
  • Internal heat exchanger
