Technical description
Ignition failure: Should the flame not ignite or is unstable within the pre-set safety time cycle the controls will shut the boiler down (after 5 attempts)
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's control system fails to detect a stable flame after several attempts to fire up. The most common reasons include a lack of gas reaching the burner, a worn-out spark electrode that can no longer create a spark, or a dirty internal sensor that cannot 'see' the flame even if it has lit.
This fault can be more frequent during extreme cold spells if the external gas regulator or pipework freezes, restricting the flow of fuel required for ignition.
Engineer required
This is a high severity fault. Stop using the boiler and call a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
