Common problems guide

The most common Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 826 problems

The faults most likely to send a Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 826 into lockout — with plain-English causes, what to check first, estimated repair costs and whether you need a Gas Safe engineer.

This model is discontinued. Parts can be harder to source and expensive. If repair costs are mounting, a new A-rated boiler may be the smarter choice.

The 6 most common faults

01
F.22 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside the system has dropped too low to operate safely.

What to try first

Locate the two small taps or the flexible silver filling loop positioned underneath your boiler.Slowly open the valves to let water into the system until the pressure gauge on the front display shows between 1.0 and 1.5 bar.Ensure both valves are tightened firmly shut again to prevent the pressure from rising too high.

Est. cost
£80-150
Parts
Filling loop, Pressure relief valve, Pressure sensor

02
S.54 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has temporarily stopped working because it has detected that the water pressure inside the system is too low.

What to try first

Check the pressure gauge on the front of your boiler; it should be between 1.0 and 1.5 bar.If it is below 1.0, locate the filling loop (a flexible metal braided hose) underneath the boiler.Open the valves on the filling loop to allow cold mains water into the system until the needle reaches 1.5 bar, then securely close the valves.

Est. cost
£0-£120
Parts
Filling loop, Pressure relief valve, Pressure sensor

03
F75 High Engineer

Your boiler is struggling to detect water moving through the system properly, which is preventing it from safely starting up.

Est. cost
£180-350
Parts
Pressure sensor, Central heating pump
Full guide for F75
04
F.75 High Engineer

Your boiler is not detecting the necessary water movement to heat your home, which is likely caused by a blocked pump or a faulty pressure sensor.

Est. cost
£150-350
Parts
Pressure sensor, Central heating pump, Expansion vessel
Full guide for F.75
05
S.42 High Engineer

Your boiler has detected a blockage in its exhaust system or a problem with the device that drains away water, so it has stopped working to keep your home safe.

Est. cost
£120-250
Parts
Condensate pump, Flue non-return sensor, PCB
Full guide for S.42
06
F.00 High Engineer

Your boiler has lost the signal from the sensor that monitors the water temperature, causing it to stop heating your home as a safety precaution.

Est. cost
£120-220
Parts
Flow temperature sensor, Wiring harness
